The Scandies don't turn me on because of their cost of living and don't get me started on Switzerland. I had a friend who spent four years working there but lived in France over the border the whole time because Switzerland as a country is totally insufferable to live in.

Many thanks, Graham - much appreciated.

As for your question, do you mean top five places in the world, or in Spain?

In general - and without seeming like I'm trying to avoid the question! - it's a personal choice. Different people have different ideas about what their ideal life looks like. Some want year-round sun, some like seasons; some want mountains, others the sea; some want to be in an English-speaking country, others don't; some want to be in easy reach of their homeland, others prefer to be across the world.

That being said, the top five destinations traditionally are ...

For Brits:
1) Australia
2) Spain
3) United States
4) Canada
5) Ireland

For Americans:
1) Mexico
2) Canada
3) UK
4) Germany
5) Israel

When it comes to quality of life though, as measured by the sundry studies into these topics, it turns out it's hard to beat the Scandinavian countries or Switzerland!
